I give it 3 stars because quite a few of the rocks were slung off the sand mat during shipping. Simply rinse clean when soiled or replace as necessary. Sturdy hygienic and easily removable the exo terra sand mat is easy to use and can be cut to fit any terrarium size. It really does look nice and seems safer than regular sand.

Overall a convenient good quality and affordable substrate solution for desert reptiles. It still has a nice texture but more and more of those suckers are getting lost every time i decide to wash the matt. Other than the initial crap ton of sand you get from the inside of the box it is very nice for any lizard to have as there substrate. Gotta give it time to warm up and get the curves out of it.

You can t just wipe it. This safe and hygienic substrate is suitable for numerous reptiles with the benefit of minimum bacterial built up. I don t know if i ll purchase another one since it s a pain to clean. It is not that easy to clean.

If you shake it off in your yard before you actually put it in your beardies terrarium then it s fine but i just wish that the sand wouldn t fall off to easily when just running your hand across the mat. The texture of the sand mat enables your reptile to have a firm grip on the substrate increasing your reptile s sense of safety and comfort. I bought two and trade them out about once a week.
