Garage doors have a cable on each side that s wound around a drum with one end attached to the door itself. A crooked or off balanced door. If one of these cables is broken power from the spring can t get to the door and the door hangs crooked. One of the most likely culprits when you have a crooked garage door is a broken torsion spring.

This will cause the unit to stick. Safety sensors are the electronic eyes near the base of the door track on both sides. If the opener is adjusted properly the garage door will move up and down in an even motion. Verify if there isn t a block between them.

Here are three possibilities. Any of these situations indicate that one or both garage door tracks need to be aligned. They need to have a clear line of sight between them in order for the door to work properly. Warping of the door will also cause it to run crooked and stick in the tracks.

It is possible that the vertical track down the side has gone out of alignment and shifted due to a slightly loose lag screw. Energy from the spring turns the drum which either winds or unwinds the cable thereby lifting or lowering the door. Push the door back to adjust the door and get the center aligned again. Then look to see if the rollers are in working order.

Without proper adjustment however the unit may run along the tracks unevenly. By pushing the door back into position you should have made the vertical track straighten. Pulling the door up and down is a garage door opener. The door might be hard to open and close due to it binding.
